Urology Specialists of Coastal Georgia was founded in 1993 by Dr. Thomas Shook to assist people with urological problems. The original office was located in the Medical Arts Center.
Later the practice moved to 613 Stephenson Avenue and added Dr. John Coursey to the practice. Dr. Coursey is experienced in robotic surgery, reducing blood loss, speeding recovery time and reducing post surgical complications. Dr. Coursey was the first surgeon in Savannah to perform this procedure.
Dr. Shook specializes in brachytherapy (radiation seed placement), cryotherapy, and HIFU (ultrasound ablation) for the treatment of prostate cancer. He also focuses his practice on the treatment of female incontinence and pelvic prolapse, the ureteroscopic retrieval of stones, and the placement of prosthetic devices such as penile prostheses and artificial sphincters for urinary incontinence. Dr. Coursey is a leader in reversing vasectomy and hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery for kidney masses.
